Cradle to Cradle is a discovery that provides hope and enthusiasm for a lot of people I have met. There is a lot of energy and focus and people truly want Cradle to Cradle to become a success. I think implementing C2C in our products and activities requires a lot of joined effort. Experts of different fields are need to work together. A multidisciplinary approach is required. A lot of different networks of people are currently formed.

Social networking sites can be of help. Show the world you support the ideas of Cradle to Cradle by joining one or more of the C2C groups that are currently around. This is an easy way to seriously expand your network without adding everybody to your personal contact list.

Dutch groups. Have a look!

Gisterenavond was ik met ongeveer 50 anderen in Noordwijk bij de primeur van de uitzending ‘Afval is Voedsel; Een revolutie in Nederland‘ georganiseerd door de VPRO in samenwerking met de Baak.

De documentaire van Rob van Hattum is het vervolg op de uitzending die eerder in oktober 2006 werd uitgezonden. Het eerste kwartier van dit tweede deel begint met een samenvatting van het eerste deel en is hier al te zien.

Na de samenvatting laat het tweede deel de gevolgen in Nederland zien. Behalve McDonough en Braungart, komen aan het woord minister Jacqueline Cramer, Dick Thesing, Hans Wijers, Adri Duivesteijn, Bert Kersten en Louise Vet.

Maandag 26 november om 20.55u op NED2 is de documentaire voor iedereen te zien.

In de discussie die na afloop van de vertoning volgde, maakte Rob van Hattum bekend dat hij en Gijs Meyer Swantee de Stichting Cradle to Cradle Planet (C2CPlanet) hebben opgericht die de verschillende Cradle to Cradle initiatieven en netwerken in Nederland journalistiek zullen blijven volgen. Het idee is om via internet de korte reportages aan te bieden.

“De Nederlandse economie wordt steeds duurzamer voor het milieu. Tussen 1990 en 2006 is de milieuvervuiling door Nederlandse bedrijven en huishoudens afgenomen, terwijl de economie in die periode wel is gegroeid. Het tempo waarin bedrijven energie besparen is de laatste jaren echter teruggelopen. Dit blijkt uit de vandaag verschenen publicatie Milieurekeningen 2006 van het CBS. “, aldus het CBS (persbericht).

Naar aanleiding van dit artikel vraag ik me af wat het CBS zou moeten meten om de ontwikkeling van Cradle to Cradle te kunnen meten. Een aanzet:

• Het percentage van productie ontworpen voor recycling in de biosfeer.
• Het percentage van productie ontworpen voor recycling in de technosfeer.
• De verhouding van gebruikte grondstoffen ten opzichte van productie (Bill Ford: “Why do we use 23.000 kilograms of raw material to build a 1,300-kilogram-car?”).
• Het percentage van gebruikte grondstoffen die voortkomen uit recycling vanuit de technosfeer.

Wie verbetert of vult aan?

Today this site passed 10.000 hits! Most visitors are attracted by the Cradle to Cradle Chronology, but the blog section might become more attractive soon too. Paul Sporken, who I met during the Let’s Cradle congress in Maastricht has joined the blog as an author! I am very excited about this, because Paul and I share the same appreciation for the Cradle to Cradle philosophy. More authors sharing the same interests, could mean more frequent updates for readers!

I just found this video ‘The Crisis of Perception‘ by Deepak Chopra and realized Cradle to Cradle is very much about interconnectedness. See for example what the former CEO of Mitsubishi says in the video ‘An Ecological Conundrum‘.

De BBC publiceerde vandaag de uitkomsten van een onderzoek onder 22.000 mensen in 21 landen. Het laat zien dat ruim 8 van de 10 mensen zeggen bereid te zijn hun levensstijl aan te passen voor het milieu, ook in China en de Verenigde Staten. Nederland is niet in het onderzoek meegenomen.

Hoeveel mensen zullen ook daadwerkelijk deze bereidheid-in-woord omzetten in daden? En in welke mate? Ik heb daar twijfels over. Daarom ondersteun ik het gedachtengoed van Cradle to Cradle. Mensen hoeven niet minder te consumeren mits we er voor zorgen dat we onze productie en activiteiten zodanig (her)ontwerpen dat deze bijdragen aan de natuur i.p.v. deze te schaden. Cradle to Cradle laat zien dat het kan. We kunnen onze consumptiemaatschappij zodanig omvormen dat we met behoud van ons consumptiepatroon een postieve footprint achterlaten. Let op, dit mag mijns inziens geen excuus zijn om grenzeloos te gaan consumeren, maar juist een stimulans om onze productieprocessen, materiaalgebruik en return logistics te gaan ‘ver-cradle-en’.

Net thuis, gelijk maar iets melden: Wat een geweldig congres was het. Met dank aan EUX.TV vind je hier video fragmenten van het congres. Hou het in de gaten, ik zal ze in elk geval allemaal aan de Chronology toevoegen.

De afgelopen twee dagen in Maastricht waren heerlijk. Hoewel ik niet veel nieuwe dingen heb gehoord, heb ik veel inspiratie en energie gekregen van alle sprekers en vooral mensen die ik heb mogen ontmoeten.
