Ook geregistreerd op een van de vele social networking sites? Hyves? LinkedIn? Een ander netwerk? Velen van ons hebben op een (of meer) van deze sites een profiel. Erg handig en leuk om in contact te blijven met je vrienden, familie en/of zakelijke partners. Maar ook een middel voor actie. Dit is een oproep om via de social networks kleur te bekennen en je profiel te verbinden met het Cradle to Cradle Supporters initiatief.

Laat weten dat u de Cradle to Cradle principes ondersteunt zoals deze door Braungart en McDonough in hun boek zijn verwoord. Het doel is om op deze manier internationaal een enorme groep supporters te vormen. Mensen die verlangen naar een wereld waarin menselijke activiteit een positieve voetafdruk achterlaat. Laten we ‘bottom up’ tonen aan beslissers en beleidsmakers wat we willen en met hoeveel we zijn.

Deelname is voor iedereen mogelijk, en is zeer eenvoudig. Kijk op http://www.c2c-supporters.org voor meer info, neem deel aan het initiatief en vooral: wees een ambassadeur van dit initiatief. Maak uw vrienden bewust, bespreek de principes binnen uw bedrijf, universiteit of gemeenschap. Spreek met uw leveranciers. Nodig uw contacten uit om ook supporter te worden. Vraag hen om hun contacten ook weer uit te nodigen, etc.

Yesterday I visited the Cradle to Cradle lecture by Louise Vet in Wageningen, The Netherlands (info). Amongst other things, Louise showed some eye-opening pictures to show the problems are not about energy, but all about matter.

Not about energy…

As you have been reading on this blog earlier (see ‘Use current solar income’ (door Emil Möller) and Tweede kamer neemt CSP motie aan (in Dutch)), there is really no energy crisis.

All about matter…

The picture below is from the article ‘Earth’s natural wealth: an audit‘ published in issue 2605 of New Scientist magazine, 23 May 2007, page 34-41. Read the article, it is interesting. Click the image for a larger view.

Except from the sunlight we receive, Earth is a closed system. The resources we have are finite, and for some of them already within years.

I thought this was a nice and informative picture to share with you… Please support the Cradle to Cradle principles: ‘Waste equals food’ and ‘Use current solar income’.

Soms verdient de politiek een pluim. Gisteren heeft de Tweede Kamer met meerderheid van stemmen de motie aangenomen die door Boris van der Ham (D66) en Wijnand Duyvendak (Groen Links) is ingediend. De regering is verzocht in overleg te treden met landen in het Middellandse Zeegebied, inclusief de Noord-Afrikaanse landen, over de toepassing van Concentrated Solar Power (CSP), en binnen de Europese Unie initiatieven te ontwikkelen om een geza-
menlijke inzet op CSP-installaties mogelijk te maken

Het grote rode vierkant aan de linkerzijde toont een gebied van 254 km × 254 km woestijngebied dat, als bedekt met concentrated solar power centrales, evenveel elektriciteit oplevert als de elektriciteit consumptie van de hele wereld. Sinds 15 januari is er wekelijks een Nederlandse topmanager te gast bij “Een Duurzaam Gesprek”. De gasten zijn de Leaders for Nature. Hoe denkt het bedrijfsleven over duurzaamheid, wat doen ze, en wat gaan ze doen? Hoewel de interviewsters (Ilona Hofstra en Marleen Janssen Groesbeek) geen geweldige indruk maken, is het wat mij betreft een aanrader om de uitzendingen te bekijken.

Alle opgenomen gesprekken zijn als podcast (audio) of zelfs als vodcast (video) te downloaden. Ik bekijk ze in de file…

I was just browsing for more information on the work of Herman Daly who originated the idea of uneconomic growth and author of Steady-State Economics.

[Herman Daly was mentioned in relation to Cradle To Cradle by Bart Gottschalk (see: his book review of 'Cradle to Cradle – Remaking the Way We make Things'), Jan Juffermans (see: 'Cradle To Cradle: niet zo kinderlijk eenvoudig!' or his reaction to 'Leef een grote voetafdruk! Hoe meer afval hoe beter') and Leida Rijnhout (see: 'Money makes the world go round?').]

While looking for sources, I’ve found the Stock Exchange of Visions. What a nice concept, have a look at it. Several speakers give their opinion or ideas in videos on different visions. After each statement, you the viewer can agree or disagree or share your opinion in a forum. I hope William McDonough and Michael Braungart will be invited to share their vision here soon.

Anyway, have a look at what Herman Daly for example has to say about Natural Resources, Energy, and Growth. Note that Daly mentions efficiency, instead of eco-effectiveness, when he talks about Design.

Windenergie op zee. Windpark Q7 voor de kust van IJmuiden bijvoorbeeld. Bekijk de filmpjes, prachtig! Een nadeel van windenergie is dat er te veel elektriciteit wordt opgewekt als het waait, en te weinig bij windstilte. In bergachtig gebied wordt dit opgelost door bij een energie overschot water omhoog te pompen, en te laten vallen bij een tekort. Middels turbines wordt dan elektriciteit opgewekt. Geen oplossing voor de lage landen, of toch wel?

Ik kwam dit filmpje tegen op new-energy.tv: ‘Een valmeer in zee‘. KEMA en Bureau Lievense hebben, in samenwerking met de gebroeders Das een ontwerp gemaakt voor een energie-eiland voor de Nederlandse kust. Het oude plan Lievense dat oorspronkelijk in het IJsselmeer was bedacht is nu op de Noordzee geprojecteerd.

Ik hoop van harte dat we met dit soort initiatieven het energie probleem snel oplossen en vervolgens een ware Cradle To Cradle economie kunnen gaan realiseren.
